In our everyday life, our mobile phones make our living easier and more convenient. Smartphones would even let you use apps and cloud data repositories that contain significant information about you. With just a swipe away, this gadget could let us access our business emails, financial details, medical information, and so much more.
There’s no question that no one would want unauthorized users to use it as a gateway to your data. However, there are times when our mobile gadgets are misplaced, lost or stolen. It calls for an opportunity for hackers to put your data and apps at risk. Certain issues or threats are what we don’t want to experience when this time happens.
Protect your mobile data. Here are some ways to keep your information safe and secured from hackers and threats.
Grab-proof your phone.
One of the best “grab-prevention” choices will be a wireless proximity alarm system. These device combinations would let you be alarmed when your phone reaches the pre-set distance limit from the proximity device.
Use a screen lock.
The easiest security precaution you could do is to use a screen lock to require authentication. Setting authentication and time-lock security features do not take more than two minutes. Some phones having different operating systems even feature fingerprint scanner or even facial recognition for screen lock. Either way, this one is the first and simplest thing you can do to prevent unauthorized users from accessing your mobile data.
Update your Operating System.
The next time your mobile screen alarms you that there’s an operating system update, do not ignore it. These updates basically fix security issues in your old operating system. If you continuously cancel the update, then you are convincing hackers that you’re a good target.
Beware of Public Wi-fi.
Free public Wi-Fi gives you the advantage to reduce your data plan. However, if you are trying so hard to lighten your financial burdens, then hackers will find it easier to intercept and get a hold of your information. Although it’s not bad to use public Wi-Fi, some precautions should be observed to keep your mobile data away from threats. Using a Virtual Private Network or VPN will help you encrypt your wireless session across a public Wi-FI connection. Some phones have a built-in VPN but you can also buy one via the app store.
Clean up your apps.
We all have our favorite social media app or game on our phones. We wouldn’t even budge to log out from it because we are using it from time to time. However, according to Michael Kaiser – executive director of the National Cyber Security Alliance, hackers usually find a hole in an app to exploit your personal data. It would be recommendable if you delete apps that you no longer use and update the remaining apps since they also fix include security fixes.
Be a smart user. Follow the abovementioned tips and be protected from threats and other cybersecurity issues. If you have questions regarding data security, feel free to drop a comment.
